This bazaar hotel is within walking distance from downtown Durham'south hot spots, including tons of local shops, restaurants, bars, and performance spaces similar DPAC. It'due south close to home and highly and highly accessible from any number of surrounding areas including Raleigh, Cary, and Greensboro. It's also very near RDU international airport.
ii. Nod to Durham's History at 21c Museum Hotel
I absolutely beloved the history of the hotel. In fact, it'south on the National Register of Historic Places. Its past life is celebrated from their 1970s-esque Terrazzo floors to their basement vault to this ultra-absurd Directory lath. It's posted immediately after you walk in the front door and provides museum information and weekly events.
3. Super Cool Bank Vault in the Basement of 21c
This is one of the coolest features I've ever seen in whatever hotel. Y'all'll instantly feel like a James Bond graphic symbol here. Head downstairs to come across the many minor condom deposit boxes to gargantuan vaults.
The floor tiles are cheeky and take money printed on them! How posh would information technology be to take a little reanimation after a twenty-four hour period of exploring downtown Durham in a bank vault? Talk about #InstagramWorthy.
4. Luxurious Rooms at Durham's 21c
The rooms wereamazing!The bed was comfortable and we had a wonderful night's sleep. The wifi was fast and free, the Nespresso automobile made high-quality coffee (not the weak coffee alibi you often receive at less wonderful hotels) and the bathroom was spotless.
I even noticed that the grout in the sleek black-tiled shower looked make new. Nosotros were on the 11th floor and then had an added bonus: the VIEW! Their bath products are bachelor for purchase in their hotel gift shop if you finish up loving their bath products as much as we did.
5. The Counting House Restaurant at 21c Museum Hotel in Durham
We had the almost delicious drinks and appetizers in their eating place,Counting House. Would our downtown Durham staycation have been as consummate without fourth dimension at the Counting House? Probably non!
Encarmine Marys are my jam and I have to tell you, having only returned from Kingdom of spain about 2 weeks prior to our 21c trip, they put truly delicious authentic Castilian olives in the cocktail. I was in sky!
I would have asked for a whole bowl of olives if not for the filling Deviled Eggs and Fried Oysters appetizers in front of usa, which nosotros thoroughly enjoyed equally well. (I'k a sucker for a tasty deviled egg.) Their menu has inverse a bit, especially during the pandemic, just overall their food is great and it's worth ordering something if you're feeling noshy.
I admit nosotros would have enjoyed cocktails at the bar the evening before as well had it not been such a packed scene (pre-COVID) which ways become at that place early on or be patient if you desire to see and exist seen at this happening location; there wasn't a seat in the business firm and then we took advantage of champagne in our hotel room instead which is another keen option.
The Counting Business firm's inviting couches, plush yellowish velvet curtains and incredible collection of animal-inspired art will certainly have you visiting at some point during your stay.
6. Atypical Ballroom Bliss at 21c Museum Hotel
21c Museum Hotel in Durham has diverse meeting and event spaces throughout the hotel. My favorite, however, is the vast celebration space pictured beneath that can seat up to 250 people. The tall ceilings and gorgeous huge sphere-like calorie-free fixtures are inspirational.
I can envision a helpmate and groom'south wedding entrance through plush curtains here with their cocktail hour amongst the art exhibits upstairs. This ballroom is the perfect place to dance into the late hours of the dark – information technology feels upscale and luxurious and annihilation only your typical "hotel ballroom."

So if you were at the hotel in February 2021, for example, plan to head back in February 2022 for fresh pieces of art to admire. (And every eight months or then after that! Definitely every year!)
9. Pink Penguins at 21c
We fabricated some new friends during our stay! They were pinkish penguins and about 3.5 feet tall and were very photogenic.
The hotel has200 pink penguins that are carefully accounted for at any given moment of any mean solar day. Little did nosotros know we would be staying with one in our room – she was a welcomed third-wheel. 🙂
Nosotros also learned that each of the 21c Hotels across the nation has its own unique colour. For example, Louisville Kentucky has red penguins. We loved the vibrant pinkish color of Durham's!
10. Leave Survey Sent past 21c
I received an e-mail with a link to a survey requesting my feedback after our stay. Sigh. I usuallyhate these things…just await! I clicked the link to complete the survey wanting to pass along the positive review of our stay. I was so incredibly pleasantly surprised…and so much so information technology made ourten Reasons Nosotros Dear 21c Museum Hotel listing.
They're tongue and cheek nigh the entire survey adding requests like rating the post-obit statement on a scale of one-5, "Love the ambiance: lighting made me await 10 years younger, great tunes and fantastic art." I was really a fiddling sad when I got to the end of the survey. It had me grin from ear to ear.
